Training women to run for political office implementing UN resolution 1325

 

1st Phase

10 TEAM 1325 members from the districts of Monaragala, Rathnapura, Galle, Matara, Kandy, Badulla, Colombo, Matale,Kurunagala, and Polonnaruwa were able to secure funds from US based National Endowment for Democracy through AWAW to train 50 women in each district to run for political office.

The subjects they covered in 5 workshops are

1. advocacy and lobbying
2. media and public speaking
3. knowing your governing structures 13th & 17th amendment to     the Sri Lankan constitution
4. proposal writing and budget preparation / fund raising
5. vcoalition building and networking

All of them have successfully conducted 4 workshops out of the 5 and three districts namely, Badulla, Galle and Matale have already concluded the project very successfully by conducting all 5 workshops.

2nd Phase

The rest , 15 Team 1325 members received the cheques for the 1st training workshop on 7th of November at Hill Top hotel.
A one day workshop was held for orientation by Galle district team 1325 member U.D.M Chandra.
