I am the founder and the president of the Sinhala Tamil Rural women’s Organization established in 1998. My main focus is to empower women economically and create space for them to share their experiences and problems, and provide them with information about their rights. I received awards including president’s award in 1998 for leadership in community development and peace building, the rural women’s organization award in 2000 for creative work in rural areas. Also won the Sri Lankan  NGO councils Sevajoth Award in 2001 for peace building, and award by the women’s ministry for working with women , and  NGO samaseva’s award for peace-building. I am among the 1000 women who were nominated for the Noble peace prize in 2006
